Drowning Prevention
Shannon and I feel lead to help other families avoid the same tragedy.
Something good has to come out of us losing our baby Edna Mae. We want to help as many children as possible learn to swim and have their homes prepared to keep children safe.
You can have every precaution in place but accidents happen everyday, Children need to know the basic survival skills, so if they fall into a pool or lake they can help themselves.
We thought it could never happen to us safe!

In our case...
When I discussed swimming lessons with other parents, I never fully offered my opinion.
I knew deep down that I should get the girls lessons,
 BUT
the classes were too expensive for our one income family.
and I honestly thought I had time, Taylor was just barely three and Em was just a year and a half.
BUT
I have two young children and I am only one parent, because Shannon worked full time.
What would I do with the other child while I was in the pool.
We want to take "The BUT" out of every parents mouth.

We now believe God had a bigger plan for Edna Mae's life. As hard as it is to accept that she isn't with us, we feel God is using us to make people aware of this problem. Too many children die each year from drowning or are never the same from near-drowning accidents, it does not have to be this way. There are programs out there to help each and every one, we just have to get the word out.

8 Basic Survival Skills when your near any body of water...

Whether you have a pool, like to swim, or just enjoy dips in the ocean or lake:
1.Learn how to swim properly. Regardless of a person's age or skill level, there are always skills that can be improved. If you don't know how to swim at all, its never too late to learn.
2.Always swim with a buddy.
Even if your a good swimmer, accidents can and do happen.
3.Never rely on a flotation devices
to keep your children safe, if you must use one never take your eyes of them. Remember it only takes two minutes under water to lose consciousness.
4.Educate yourself and your children. Find out where swimming lessons are taught and enroll
your children and yourself in regular swim lessons. It would be wise to enroll and certify
yourself in CPR, as well.
5.Practice as much as possible. Once you and your child learn the basic skills... Practice!
6.Never leave obstacles around pool area where someone could trip and fall in the water unexpectedly.
7.Install pool fences. If you have young children or have young children visit you often, have a pool gate or fence installed to prevent children from going near the pool.
8.Keep doors leading
outside locked.
9. Install Alarms and or Chimes on all doors leading outside.
If a door is open, it will alert you that someone went outside.
